Creative Arts Therapy is defined as the use of dance, art, music etc within the context of psychotherapy, counseling, rehabilitation or medicine. Creative Art Therapy can be verbal, nonverbal or a combination of the two.
Dance/Movement Therapy: Based on the assumption that the body & mind are interrelated & is defined as the psychotherapeutic use of movement as a process that furthers the emotional, cognitive and physical integration of the individual. Dance/Movement therapy effects changes in feelings, cognition, physical functioning and behavior. ( ADTA, 2014)
Art Therapy: The purposeful use of viusal arts materials and media in intervention, counseling, psychotherapy and rehabilitation; it is used with individuals of all ages, families and groups. (Edwards, 2004; Malchiodi, 2012)
Music Therapy: Prescribed us of music to effect positive changes in psychological, physical, cognitive or social functioning of individuals with health or educational problems. (AMTA, 2014; Wheeler, 2014)

** Creative Arts Therapists must complete graduate level study and are credentialed as Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT).
