“It is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self.”
- D.W. Winnicott
What is White Water?
White Water equates personal growth and development to that of white water rapids. These rapids are turbulent and ongoing. In his theory of organizational change Kurt Lewin suggests change is ongoing and managing it is a continual process. Our lives are constantly in a state of change and we must be aware and adjust accordingly if we are to maintain, thrive and succeed. By metaphorically looking at our lives this way, it allows us to connect to nature as well as to ourselves for our healing. When we say white water heals we are saying our ability to adapt to change & flow with the current we are giving ourselves permission to just be without resistance.
Creative Arts Therapies
Creative Arts Therapy is defined as the use of dance, art, music etc within the context of psychotherapy, counseling, rehabilitation or medicine. Creative Art Therapy can be verbal, nonverbal or a combination of the two.
Dance/Movement Therapy: Based on the assumption that the body & mind are interrelated & is defined as the psychotherapeutic use of movement as a process that furthers the emotional, cognitive and physical integration of the individual. Dance/Movement therapy effects changes in feelings, cognition, physical functioning and behavior. ( ADTA, 2014)
Art Therapy: The purposeful use of viusal arts materials and media in intervention, counseling, psychotherapy and rehabilitation; it is used with individuals of all ages, families and groups. (Edwards, 2004; Malchiodi, 2012)
